Darren Weatherman, a Guil-Rand volunteer firefighter, and his wife, Heather, were seriously injured after a motorist struck their motorcycle outside of Laurinburg, North Carolina on September 14, 2010. Mr. Weatherman underwent surgery on his pelvis and hip, and has a 5-6 month rehabilitation program ahead of him. Other Guil-Rand firefighters built a wheelchair ramp and plan on helping the Weathermans around the house with yard work and maintenance projects during the months of Mr. Weatherman’s recovery. The couple was participating in the Peak Heals Tour—which includes firefighters on motorcycles and several pink fire trucks in order to raise cancer awareness throughout the U.S.—when the accident occurred.
